(click the pix) 2009 was an intense year of work, which led to its fair share of results, but also to a mild burnout. 2010 started with a big introspective phase, leading me to realize that all the work I did in the last 15 years was actually the pursuit of an inner aesthetic striving for reduction and technical perfection that started when I first encountered minimal techno at the age of 12. This insight simplified a lot of things in my daily work, and gave me a completely new focus, finally allowing myself to enjoy past efforts and build upon them, and more importantly, share my enthusiasm, experiences and energy.
Being in constant contact with creative and technical people around the world, it is quite striking to see how many of these artists, engineers and designers are similarly driven by their own holistic concepts. The readily available knowledge on the internet (videos, books, magazines, blogs, user groups, …) makes it incredibly easy to find access to tools, techniques and people to realize these ideas.
Having grown up with these resources, and being able to create a bridge between more arcane and specific knowledge (programming and electronics) and more artistic approaches (music), the most sensible thing to do is to share (not only documenting ones projects, but reflecting on the meta-thinking that went into them) with other people. The support of a community is invaluable, and the resulting ideas and friendships, as well as the deep internal happiness that results in being able to channel one’s creativity, are I think an essential part of personal happiness.
